Roman Reigns WWE

It wasn’t long ago that Roman Reigns was scheduled to wrestle Goldberg for the Universal championship in a match that could have been the main event of WrestleMania 36. Then word got out that he was pulling himself from that match over considerations for his own personal health and well being.

He later released a video on Instagram confirming as much while also making clear that we, as fans, don’t know the full story and shouldn’t be judging him for it. When asked about his removal and how it would be handled on television, Triple H said they would write a “unique” story to explain Braun Strowman taking his place.

That didn’t end up being the case. They simply announced Strowman was in and that was that.

In fact, since that Instagram video, Reigns’ name has not been mentioned on WWE television even once. That includes this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, where Strowman set up his first program as Universal champion opposite Bray Wyatt.

As others have pointed out, with Reigns being in the high risk group for the coronavirus, realistically it makes sense to keep him on the shelf for the duration of the pandemic, or at least until much of the country isn’t on a stay-at-home order in an attempt to flatten the curve. That could mean missing a number of months.

It’s not clear if that’s what is going to happen, but WWE’s refusal to even mention his name sure seems to paint a clear enough picture.
