Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff says he learned about the French Open date change on the social media.

On Tuesday, the FFT announced their plan to hold this year's French Open from September 20 - October 04.

On March 20, the ATP suspended the men's professional Tour for six weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was an extreme measure taken by the ATP but still players weren't too optimistic that the Tour would continue at the end of April.

The French Open organizers were one of those who didn't believe the Tour would continue after just six weeks so this past Tuesday they announced the French Open date change.

Shortly after the FFT announced the new French Open date, the ATP extended the Tour suspension until June 07.

"I found out about the news on the social media. Every player was surprised by this change," Struff told tennis MAGAZINE.

The Laver Cup - co-owned by record 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer -- is scheduled to take place from September 25-27 in Boston.

"Roland Garros will now take place in the same time as the Laver Cup -- which is already sold out -- is not a good news for tennis," Struff said.

The Laver Cup released a statement, confirming they plan to hold the event as scheduled.

"The tennis world learned today that the French Tennis Federation intends to schedule Roland Garros from September 20 - October 4, 2020, due to the impact of COVID-19. That schedule overlaps with the dates of the already sold out Laver Cup 2020 scheduled for September 25 – 27, 2020, at TD Garden in Boston.

"This announcement came as a surprise to us and our partners - Tennis Australia, the USTA and the ATP. It raises many questions and we are assessing the situation. At this time, we want our fans, sponsors, broadcasters, staff, volunteers, players and the great city of Boston to know that we intend to hold Laver Cup 2020 as currently scheduled."
