Andrea Petkovic jokes Rafael Nadal is probably searching for a post-tennis job amid the rumors of the Spanish tennis icon potentially becoming the new Real Madrid FC President. Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam champion, is a big football fan and an avid Real Madrid supporter. Several days ago, Spanish media reported Nadal could potentially replace 76-year-old Florentino Perez when the long-time Real Madrid President steps down from his position.
"First of all, what do you have to do as a president? You represent, which Rafael can represent, you go to a few press conferences and he can do that. If you have to keep up a ball, he can do that too, so why not? I don't want to think of it but soon retirement is on the horizon and you better find a new job, Rafa," Petkovic said on Tennis Channel, via Sportskeeda.
Will Nadal retire from pro tennis in 2024?In May, Nadal held a press in which he announced his withdrawal from the French Open and also revealed his plans to retire in 2024. Juan Monaco, a former top-10 player, said he believes Nadal will continue his career if he returns healthy and plays well in 2024. When Nadal's uncle Toni was asked about Monaco's comments, he appeared to agree with the Argentine's take.
"Yeah, I think it’s a bit like that. Then we’re going to see. Rafael is already 37 years old, the years weigh heavily. What I know, because I talked to him, is that Rafael wants to come back, he wants to recover well. And if he recovers well I think he will want to continue. Then we’ll see, because he has to get the results, which won’t be easy, because when you lose the ranking it’s more difficult, because you have to compete with the best faster. Then you have to be more days well and you have to play hard matches more times. Let’s see," Toni Nadal told CLAY in July.
