Maria Sharapova on the red carpet: a sublime vision of class

Maria Sharapova was one of the most beautiful and strongest tennis players of the last twenty years and paradoxically she said goodbye too soon to the WTA circuit. The Russian tennis player became number 1 and won several Grand Slams at a very young age and at least initially she seemed to be the main rival of the American champion Serena Williams.

Maria won 5 Grand Slams, triumphing in all four Grand Slam rounds, the last one with Roland Garros back in 2014. However, physical problems held back Masha's career and she was forced to retire, after several rounds, back in February 2020.

Sharapova attended the Breakthrough Prize ceremony. The beautiful former Russian tennis player showed up on the red carpet wearing an elegant black dress, very seductive.

The dress features a plunging neckline and a slit. The outfit is completed with knit tights and a pair of stiletto heels.

Maria Sharapova on Serena Williams

Rivals since Maria Sharapova entered the professional Tour, the former Russian tennis player talked about Serena Williams and her retirement in Flushing Meadows. Sharapova explained during an interview with ESPN: "It's been amazing to see Serena's journey and the glory and gracious tenacity with which she has carried forward her career."

The interview was released on the occasion of the two women's semifinals of the US Open, where Maria Sharapova was present in the stands. The winner of five Grand Slam titles made a comparison between Serena Williams and the current generation, telling an anecdote dating back to last year's Met Gala, where they were both present.

Maria explained: "We talked about it last year at this time of the year and I told her, with no disrespect to this generation, that she was much better off and that she had to go out there, so I'm glad she had the chance to do it here in New York."

Serena Williams played the last matches of her career at the US Open. In the US Grand Slam, as well as the home tournament for the more successful Williams sister, everything was ready for the retirement of the former world number one.

A preparation that, however, slipped as the days went by, collecting victories against her opponents: first against Kovinic in the first round, then against the number two seed Anett Kontaveit. Serena Williams, however, had to surrender against the Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in three sets.
