Former Top 10 singles and doubles tennis star Radek Stepanek has posted a message to his fans online via social media, asking them to unite together in the current COVID-19 crisis.
The Czech Republic has declared a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic with more than 600 cases being reported in the country.
In his message, Stepanek commented, "I greet you in this difficult situation in which we find ourselves. I would be grateful if we would fight this virus with thoughtfulness and obey our government's decree. We can do it by our discipline and by being able to come together when it is most needed. It's about us all. One for all, all for one. Let's fight for the Czech Republic. I know what it is to fight for the Czech Republic. Whenever it was most needed, we could get together. We are in it together!
41 year old Stepanek peaked at No 8 in the singles rankings and no. 4 in the doubles rankings. He reached two Masters 1000 event finals and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2006, and won the deciding match for Czech Republic's Davis Cup winning team in 2012 and again in 2013. In doubles, he won his first Grand Slam title at the 2012 Australian Open, with Indian partner Leander Paes, defeating the Bryan Brothers in the final. The duo also won the men's doubles title at the 2013 US Open, defeating Bruno Soares and Alexander Peya in the final. Since retiring, he has also worked on the coaching teams of Novak Djokovic and Grigor Dimitrov.
