Fernando Verdasco: Valencians be more responsible during coronavirus pandemic

Spanish tennis star Fernando Verdasco, 36, has urged the people of Valencia to be more responsible and stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Spain has been affected massively by the coronavirus outbreak as there have been nearly 25,000 coronavirus cases confirmed in the country.

On Friday, Spain became the second European country to report more than 1,000 deaths caused by the coronavirus.

In a video posted on Twitter by Josef Ajram Tares, a long traffic jam on one of the main streets of Valencia could be seen.

Former world No. 7 Verdasco came across the video and he wasn't happy at all with what he saw.

"Valencia, do you know what you are doing? Take this a bit more seriously for the good of all! You can't be like this! Think of all the lives that have been lost and please be more responsible," Verdasco said in his reaction to the video posted.

Meanwhile, the ATP extended the Tour suspension until June 07 -- effectively cancelling the whole clay court season.

On June 8, the grass court season is scheduled to start as each year the ATP 250 events in Stuttgart and 's-Hertogenbosch mark the beginning of the grass season.

Verdasco, now ranked at No. 52 in the world, made a solid start to the season before his form dropped and he picked up three consecutive losses.

The Spaniard made the Doha quarterfinal in his first tournament of the season, before losing in the Australian Open third round to Alexander Zverev.

The transition to clay didn't help Verdasco, who collected back-to-back first round exits in Cordoba and Rio de Janeiro.
