Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini has fond memories of competing in the Lemon Bowl competition, one of the premier junior tennis tournaments in the world.

As per the name, the winner of the tournament gets a bowl full of lemons. The tournament is on similar lines as compared to the Orange Bowl tennis tournament - where the winner gets a bowl full of oranges.

The 23-year-old Berrettini is currently ranked No. 8 in the world and spoke about his experience of playing in the event: "Although I have never gone beyond the semifinals, I have beautiful memories of this tournament. It is a prestigious event, which allows you to compare yourself with the best players on the junior circuit. The risk of having to play on different surfaces due to weather conditions can only be an additional stimulus to adapt to all conditions. When we weren't busy on the pitch, we mounted mini tennis nets in front of the bar and played little matches all day long. I made friendships that still last over the years, it's a truly unique experience."

The tournament starts from December 27th with 930 members from across the world competing in the event, which has categories including under10, under12 and under 14. There are three clubs where the event would be hosted - New Penta 2000, Polisportiva Palocco and Eschilo 2.

The rise of Berrettini will certainly be an inspiration for the youngsters taking part in the tournament. The Italian was named Most Improved Player of the Year on the ATP in 2019 and also participated in the season-ending ATP Finals in London this year.
