Former world No. 5 Kevin Anderson was satisfied with the way he performed against rising Chilean star Cristian Garin at the ATP Cup as he was able to do the things he wanted to do on the court.
Anderson, who has fallen to No. 147 in the world following playing only five events in 2019, dominated world No. 33 Garin 6-0 6-3 to ensure the first victory for the South Africa ATP Cup team.
In the opening rubber of the tie, rising South-African Lloyd Harris saw off Nicolas Jarry 6-4 6-4 to put South Africa in front and give 2018 Wimbledon runner-up Anderson a chance to close out the tie.
"Got off to a really good start and I feel like a lot of things we have been working on, I was able to implement them,” Anderson said, per the ATP Cup. “Great that I was able to play a good match, and with Lloyd [Harris] playing well as well, get our first win for our team."
Anderson played his first match since Wimbledon when he clashed against world No. 2 Novak Djokovic on Sunday.
"A little bit physically draining after my first match. It's always, as much as you work off the court, it's always a little bit different being in a match environment,”Anderson added. “But a really good day of recovery yesterday and my body felt really good being out there today."
