We are talking about the challenge for the Slam record between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal that will highlight 2020, but Novak Djokovic is the man who could ruin all plans for the Swiss and the Spaniard. In the all-time ranking Federer leads with 20 Slams, Nadal is at 19, Djokovic is at 16.
The question is: can Novak Djokovic reach Federer's record by 2020?
I know it is a very hardchallenge for the Serb. Novak could succeed in this amazing achievement by completeting the Grand Slam. In fact, the only way Djokovic has to reach Federer is to win the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. It is a very ambitious goal to be achieved in one season. Djokovic has every chance of reaching the Federer's record but doing it in one year will depend on many variables. Perhaps too many.
First: Rafael Nadal will be determined to reach and break the Swiss record, being only one Major away. The Spaniard is also the big favorite for the final victory at the French Open, and he will start with the same chances of Djokovic at the US Open.
Second: Federer will be determined to defend his record from the assaults of both Nadal and Djokovic. The Swiss will play Wimbledon to win. Third: the last tennis player to do the Grand Slam was Rod Laver in 1969. Before him only Don Budge succeeded in this incredible goal in 1938. Laver also got the Grand Slam also in 1962. Djokovic won four consecutive Slams, but between 2015 and 2016, from Wimbledon to the French Open, not in the same season, getting the Nole Slam.
Then many other consoideretion can be done when the season enters its climax, between April and September, considering the psycho-physical shape of the Big Three and any injury. What do you think about it? Can Djokovic reach Federer as early as 2020 by completing the Grand Slam?
