Impact Wrestling (Nov. 12, 2019) brought an X-Division #1 contender match, the North defending tag team gold against Eddie Edwards and Marufuji, and Johnny Swinger pooping in Ken Shamrock’s bag.

I haven’t been keeping up on Impact, but I keep hearing they have turned a corner from the LOLTNA days. Let’s see what they have to offer.

Quick results:

X-Division #1 Contender: Trey Miguel defeated Rohit Raju, Aiden Prince, Brent Banks, Willie Mack, & Petey Williams. This was a six-way with a wild finish. Prince hit a 450 splash onto both Banks and Trey. Frog splash by Mack onto Prince. Flying stomp by Rohit onto Mack’s back. Canadian Destroyer by Petey on Rohit. Petey went for the pin, but Trey swooped in to roll Petey up for the win. Trey Miguel is the new #1 contender for X-Division champ Ace Austin.

I guess Austin has a playboy gimmick for moms. Trey’s mom was shown in the crowd and commentary hinted that Austin may make a pass toward her in the future.

Next week will be a 5 person elimination challenge to become #1 contender against Impact World Champion Sami Callihan. The competitors will be Michael Elgin, Rich Swann, Moose, Tessa Blanchard, and Daga. (Cage was added to make it a 6-way.)

Interview with Rich Swann. Everyone doubted his size, but he kicked the door down to show his heart, intensity, and integrity.

Interview with Michael Elgin. Lots of people can wish, but only one will do. That is him.

Madison Rayne defeated Alexia Nicole. This was a showcase bout for Rayne with Nicole scoring some bursts of offense. Rayne won with the Cross Rayne twisting cutter.

Johnny Swinger took a dump in what he thought was Petey Williams’ bag. Turns out the bag belonged to Ken Shamrock. Shamrock has yet to discover the surprise.

RVD was in a hot tub with Katie Forbes bouncing her behind. They will be back on Impact next week. RVD is the same he’s always been. If you think he’s changed, then maybe you have changed.

Daga defeated Jake Christ. Entertaining bout. Daga was victorious after a super hurricanrana and a butterfly pilediver/facebreaker. It was called a piledriver on commentary but Daga put his knee underneath in a facebreaker sort of way.

Interview with the North. They put out an open challenge, which Marufuji and Eddie Edwards accepted. Perfect opportunity for the North to earn the respect they deserve.

Sami Callihan & Madman Fulton defeated Rich Swann & Tessa Blanchard. Solid match with cool teamwork from Swann and Tessa. Sami hit Swann with the title belt to win. Sami and Fulton beat up their opponents after the bell. Cage! Cage ran down for the save.

Interview with Cage. He’s not done with OVE or the title belt. If there is going to be a #1 contender match next week, then he will be in it. Cage would later be officially added.

Johnny Swinger bragged about hazing Ken Shamrock. The stooges said they would have to alert human resources.

Jordynne Grace confronted Taya in the hallway. When they get in the ring again, Grace will pin Taya. Grace said it didn’t have to be for the title and it could be any match. Johnny Bravo accepted, but Grace upped it to a handicap match against both Bravo and Taya.

Moose was in the park playing tennis. By beating Ken Shamrock, he proved he is the greatest MMA fighter of all-time. Moose never played tennis before but he is a five star athlete. Moose coyly threatened to break the tennis coach’s neck, then Moose went out to dominate the court. He’s a natural.

Jessica Havoc squashed Crystal Moon. Havoc sent a message by pummeling Moon. Havoc won via chokeslam and tombstone piledriver.

Havoc ran into Su Yung backstage. The pure Yung watched Havoc’s match. Maybe they do know each other. Havoc touched Yung’s shoulder, which caused flashbacks for Yung to her evil days.

Impact World Tag Team Championship: The North retain against Eddie Edwards & Marufuji. Edwards ate the loss after a double faceplant slam then a teamwork fireman’s carry lift into a spinebuster. Josh Alexander picked up the pin.

Impact put on a decent episode. The matches were important with a #1 X-Division contender bout and a tag team title match. Daga versus Jake Christ was the best of the bunch with physical maneuvers. All of the promos served their purpose and the skits were amusing. Overall, I wasn’t moved positively or negatively about Impact. I’ll need to watch more shows to decide if the TNA stink has been shed.

I jumped right in without knowing much about the current storylines, so I don’t have opinions yet. I’m only going to talk about three things that stuck out most in my eyes.

  1. Johnny Swinger. I’ve heard his name before, but I never watched him much. I enjoyed his goofy old-school oblivious troll gimmick and use of terms like mizark (mark). Pooping in Ken Shamrock’s bag by accident as a rib gave me a chuckle. It should be funny to see Shamrock teach Swinger a lesson.
  2. Madman Fulton. I like watching hosses and big men of wrestling. Fulton displayed power and a variety of moves to make me interested in seeing more.
  3. Tessa Blanchard’s fire. I’m somewhat aware of her hatred for Sami Callihan. She was pacing the apron biding her time to make an impact on that scoundrel. Seeing Tessa get her hands on that dirtbag was satisfying.

What was your favorite moment from Impact Wrestling? Which match stole the show? How did this episode compare to the standard quality Impact (below average, average, above average)?
