After the fires that created chaos in Southern California, it was clear that the Genesis Invitational, traditionally held in San Diego, would have to be moved. This tournament is organized by the Tiger Woods Foundation, and the popular golfer believes that the relocation of this event can influence the collection of funds for all those affected by the fire.
Although it was expected that the tournament could be played in another part of the US, Tiger pointed out that holding the tournament at Torrey Pines, north of San Diego, could help raise as much money as possible.
"I think because we're in Southern California, I think we're going to be able to raise more money for all the losses that have incurred," Woods said, as quoted by Palm Beach Post.
The goal was to stay in Southern CaliforniaThis tournament will be played from February 13 to 16, and has a huge tradition. Tiger Woods, who would have participated in this competition, pointed out that there were options such as Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Pebble Beach and other locations. The goal was to make a decision that would be the most reasonable for all victims.
The 48-year-old stresses that it is important that they stay in Southern California.
"Riv is just not ready. There were so many different options out on the table, and we were trying to be understanding to all the victims that these fires have caused, has brought to them.
