Luke Donald on 'potential' deal with Zach Johnson regarding LIV Golfers

The Ryder Cup in Rome in September this year will attract special attention like never before. The captain of the European teams and the US captain are in big doubt, especially if we take into account the whole chaos related to LIV Golfers and their possibility of performance. Both teams will be able to have LIV Golfers in their team, with the fact that only LIV Golfers who are still part of the DP World Tour can play in the European team. Luke Donald talked to the media about the options that Zach Johnson has and whether LIV Golfers will play for his team.

"I think in terms of what Zach is doing and his options, I think that's kind of his call," -Donald said, as quoted by skysports.com

"Whether LIV players play on his team, again, I haven't really talked to him much about it as a captains' agreement.

Let's not forget there's still LIV players that can still play on my team. They're still eligible if they're members of the [DP World] Tour and were born in Europe. That is still a possibility for some guys."

Donald believes that no one should interfere in other people's decisions and that both captains should focus on their team and how to help it.

"I think that the team selections should be pretty separate. I'm in charge of the European team and what's best for us, and he's in charge of the USA Team and what's best for him. I think that's just how it should be."

Luke Donald on DP World Tour resignation

Luke Donald cannot be happy with the fact that some players have resigned from the DP World Tour. This leaves him without several important players, who should have been the bearers of the game. However, Luke is aware that he must use what he has at his disposal and try to achieve success with the available team.

"It's a shame that there were some resignations," Donald said. "A lot of these guys have built their legacy around DP World Tour members and their participation and everything with the Ryder Cup.

Ultimately that was their decision, and unfortunately they're off the table now for selection purposes for myself.

I've always tried to concentrate on looking at all the players that week in, week out are committed to try and make that Ryder Cup, and that hasn't changed. My situation is what it is. I've got to always take what I have in front of me and kind of go forward."
