Former Serbian Davis Cup team head coach Bogdan Obradovic reveals Novak Djokovic's goal is to reach 30 Grand Slam victories.
This past Sunday, Djokovic won his 21st Grand Slam title after beating Nick Kyrgios in the Wimbledon final.
Even though Djokovic is 35, he is still a strong force in the game and a top favorite wherever he goes.
Rafael Nadal owns the all-time Grand Slam record with 22 Grand Slams, while Djokovic is second with his 21 Grand Slams.
Reflecting on the Grand Slam race, Djokovic's ex-coach is confident the Serb can beat Nadal's record.
Obradovic: Djokovic is aiming for 30 Grand Slams“I talked to Novak Djokovic when he was 9 years old, that’s when we met for the first time,” Obradovic said on the BBC 5 Live. “After that, when he was 13, we started working together for the next 18 years, which is a very long time. He told me every time and I know his idea. He wants to get to the number 30, which is three-zero. That’s what Novak wants. So, for the next five years, he will play and he will probably have 20 opportunities to get to that number, to 30 Grand Slam trophies. Let’s see.”
Unfortunately for Djokovic, he likely won't be allowed to enter the United States for the US Open.
Djokovic hasn't been vaccinated against COVID-19 and the United States vaccine laws mandate every individual to show a vaccination proof upon entering the country.
“As things stand now, I cannot travel to Australia and the United States, but I am hoping to get positive news,” Djokovic said. “I believe things will change for Australian Open. For the US Open there is not much time, but hope dies last. I would like to play at the US Open and Australia Open, but even if I do not, it’s not the end of the world.”
