Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley says he would love to have Novak Djokovic at the tournament next year but underlined it's not his decision whether or not the Serb plays at Melbourne Park next year.

Djokovic, 35, was handed a three-year ban from entering Australia after his visa was cancelled and he was deported from the country.

Recently, Australia eased some of its COVID-19 restrictions as unvaccinated individuals are now allowed to enter the country.

Now, Djokovic needs his Australia ban to be reversed.

"I think that we are doing our best. Obviously, it is not my decision whether he will be able to play at the Australian Open, but Novak is always welcome, he knows that a lot of people in Australia love to watch him play. It's up to others to make that decision but there is a lot of time left before the 2023 Australian Open. I think what we need now is to enjoy his Wimbledon victory," Tiley told Sport Klub.

As it stands now, Djokovic will also not be allowed to compete at the US Open.

Djokovic suggested to Serbia media that he is not optimistic that he will be allowed to compete at the US Open but added he is hoping to return to the Australian Open next year.

“As things stand now, I cannot travel to Australia and the United States, but I am hoping to get positive news,” Djokovic told RTS. “I believe things will change for Australian Open. For the US Open there is not much time, but hope dies last. I would like to play at the US Open and Australia Open, but even if I do not, it’s not the end of the world.”

Australia is the place where Djokovic has had lots of success throughout his career as he is a record nine-time Australian Open champion.
