Former seven-time Grand Slam champion John McEnroe says Andy Murray is perhaps looking at Rafael Nadal and dreaming about his own one final strong Grand Slam run.

Murray, 35, hasn't had a deep Grand Slam run since 2017 Wimbledon but McEnroe feels this year's Wimbledon could be the Grand Slam where Murray makes his first good Grand Slam result in five years.

Even before the 2022 season started, Murray made it clear his big goal would be on Wimbledon.

Murray feels Wimbledon is the Grand Slam where he has his best chance at making another good Grand Slam result.

“If he's fit, I believe he is one of the contenders. I actually believe he'd be one of a handful of guys that could win it. I don't know if he is fully fit," McEnroe told The Daily Mail. “Maybe he doesn't even know that. But he's got loads of experience. He knows how to play better than almost anyone on that surface. He's prepared himself well, I believe, for that very moment, and then if he's looking at Rafa and Novak, he's got to be thinking, he's going to have one last hurrah, I believe. I think that's entirely conceivable. What I don't know is how how close to 100 percent he is.”

Murray set to compete at Wimbledon after a setback

After reaching the Surbiton Challenger semifinal, Murray made the Stuttgart final before losing to Matteo Berrettini.

Murray sustained an abdominal strain in the Stuttgart final but refused to quit and ended up losing in three sets.

After Stuttgart, Murray decided to withdraw from Queen's.

Earlier this week, Murray indicated he was still not able to practice fully but expressed hope he would be fit for Wimbledon.

Murray is a three-time Grand Slam champion and two of his three Grand Slam victories have come at Wimbledon.

Murray certanly knows what it takes to make a deep Wimbledon run and it remains to be seen how he does at The Championships this year.
