Coach Francisco Roig has once again confirmed that Rafael Nadal's foot responded well to the treatment in Spain and added the Spaniard has his eyes set on the Wimbledon title.
After winning the French Open, Nadal returned to Spain, where he tried a new treatment - radiofrequency ablation to the nerve in his foot.
The treatment obviously worked as seven days later Nadal kicked off his preparation for Wimbledon and now he is set to compete at The Championships.
Nadal is a two-time Wimbledon champion but he hasn't made it all the way at The All England Club since 2010.
“Rafa has to go to Wimbledon because he feels good and the treatment so far has worked. He is going to try to win. The pressure is always there. His feelings have always been good,” Roig told COPE.
Roig: Nadal is among Wimbledon favoritesNovak Djokovic, who has won the past three Wimbledon editions, was listed as the top favorite by Roig.
“With Rafa you aspire to everything. The favourites are Novak Djokovic, Matteo Berrettini and Rafa, in this order. If we reach the second week, Rafa will [need to] be ahead of Berrettini,” Roig said.
Roig pretty much said the same thing as Toni Nadal, who said his nephew is a Wimbledon contender but underlined it's Djokovic who is the top favorite for the title.
"Rafa is well. I think he will be one of the favorites, but the main one is still Djokovic and there will be Hurkacz or Berrettini. If he's lucky enough to go through the first week, he becomes highly competitive in the second," Toni Nadal told Radio Marca.
Nadal has won the opening two Grand Slams of the season and he has a chance to capture a Calendar Grand Slam this year.
In his last Wimbledon appearance, which was in 2019, Nadal was beaten by Roger Federer in the semifinal.
