Word came out yesterday (Mar. 24) that matches which had been planned for the cancelled pre-WrestleMania TakeOver: Tampa show would be shifted to upcoming episodes of NXT.
On tonight’s edition of the black-and-yellow brand, they laid out the line-up.
Next week (Weds., April 1) will feature one match that definitely would have been on the card for Amalie Arena when Keith Lee defends his North American title against both Dominik Dijakovic & Damian Priest. Priest has attacked Lee & Dijakovic lately, and one of those led to the champ taking out his friendly rival, Double-D. There was plenty of animosity to go around before Dom took out The Limitless One & The Archer of Infamy tonight.
The other two matches booked for that show probably wouldn’t make the cut for a TakeOver. Bobby Fish will try to handle Undisputed ERA leader Adam Cole’s business when he faces Velveteen Dream (Dream vs. Cole was the presumed NXT title match for Tampa). And six women - Aliyah, Shotzi Blackheart, Kayden Carter, Dakota Kai, Xia Li, and Deonna Purrazzo - will compete in a second chance gauntlet match for the final spot in the ladder match that will determine the #1 contender for the NXT Women’s belt.
That ladder match - already set to feature Chelsea Green, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, Io Shirai, and Mia Yim - was the only thing officially announced for Tampa. It’s been moved to April 8. The winner gets first crack at Rhea Ripley or Charlotte Flair, whichever one leaves WrestleMania 36 with the championship.
Also on April 8... Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano will end things once and for all. Triple H is sending the tag partners turned bitter enemies to an undisclosed location for a fight to determine who the face of NXT is. If they get into it again after that match, Hunter’s vowed to fire them both.
NXT’s newest psychopath, Killer Kross, has already sent a message he’ll have his eyes on that match - wherever it takes place.
That all sound good to you, Cagesiders?
