Italian Tennis Federation Chief Angelo Binaghi has revealed the Rome Masters is hoping to reschedule the to tournament.

Just less than two weeks ago, the ATP announced the suspension of the men's professional Tour for six weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak.

But many were skeptic that the situation would improve so fast and that the Tour would continue at the end of April.

This past Tuesday, the FFT announced the change of date for the French Open as the tournament is now scheduled to start on September 20.

The FFT received a lot of criticism after their announcement as their new date collides with several ATP and WTA events.

Shortly after their announcement, the ATP extended the Tour suspension through to June 07 -- effectively ending the whole clay-court season.

But the Italian Tennis Federation remains hopeful that the Rome Masters will still take place this year.

As revealed by Giorgio Spalluto, Italian Tennis Federation Chief Binaghi revealed to Sky Sport 24 that they "plan to reschedule" the Rome Masters and that they would "very happy" if they could stage the event before Roland Garros.

The Italian Tennis Federation is eager to hold the Rome Masters this year as Chief Binaghi revealed they are open to considering a different venue and a different surface.

The Rome Masters was initially scheduled to be held from May 10 - 17, while the French Open was scheduled to take place from May 24 - June 07.

It remains to be seen if the Rome Masters will get a new date.
