In an interview to El Pais the Spanish legend Manolo Orantes backed the new Davis Cup format that introduced best of three sets matches. Orantes said: "We all see that in the Grand Slams, when you play a five-hour match one day and the following day you have to play another one, you end up being broken. Now tennis is very balanced and there is a high level. Imagine if Rafael Nadal had to play another match the day after beating Medvedev in the New York final... He could not even put his jeans on!"

Pique is also trying to attract the next generations: "I totally agree. Even if you may be seeing the best show in the world, if you go to the cinema and the film lasts for three hours... You may end up being tired. It's not easy to sit for four or five hours watching a match on TV, and in DavisCup case, you were supposed to watch it almost the whole day."

Orantes likes Pique: "I always say the sport is of the sportsmen, because they have the mentality to protect it and they are more connected and they have more experience because they lived it directly. Pique fits to it. They understand better than anyone what's better for the sportsman, the body and the show, which was getting lost. You have to get to an agreement so that the TV gets the priority. In football for example they schedule a match on Monday or Friday when everybody is working or at 1:00 PM in order to get a bigger audience from China."
