At this point, matches featuring NXT Women’s champion Shayna Baszler are pretty much always overbooked affairs. With only a two-and-a-half month break in 2018, the Queen of Spades has held the title for more than a year. And the addition of her MMA Horsewomen allies Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir has given Triple H and his creative team plenty of ways to introduce shenanigans into Baszler’s title defenses.

Io Shirai’s fell victim to those shenanigans at TakeOver: XXV earlier this month. The steel cage rematch which aired on NXT tonight (June 26) was supposed to be designed to prevent interference, but of course it didn’t. Duke & Shafir appearing to keep Shirai from escaping did mean Candice LeRae could show up, too. And that was important for a couple reasons.

One, it meant both the Genius of the Sky and Candice Wrestling could hit dives from the top of the cage!

Two, it meant that even though she helped neutralize Shayna’s unfair advantage, and Shirai’s loss was part bad luck and part her own fault since she was the one who knocked the champ out with the cage door while she was leaning over the middle rope... Io had someone to destroy when the loss triggered a trip to the dark side...

So to recap, Shayna’s still champ, Io’s a heel, and Candice is gonna pissed when she gets out of the local medical facility...

Is this good or bad for the NXT Women’s division?
