German tennis player Kevin Krawietz secured his first ATP singles main draw win on Tuesday after beating Turkey's Cem Ilkel in the Antalya Open first round 6-4 6-4.
The German is focused mainly on playing doubles as he recently won the French Open doubles title alongside fellow compatriot Andreas Mies.
However, top-seeded Krawietz and Mies failed to make a deep run in Antalya as they got beaten by Jonathan Erlich and Artem Sitak in their opener on Monday.
Krawietz, 27, won two qualifying matches over the weekend to earn a place in the Antalya main draw.
The 27-year-old was playing in his first fourth ATP main draw singles match when he met Ilkel.
"That’s a cool story. It also came as a surprise, as the focus is more on the doubles competition. I am pleased with my performance and happy to be in the next round," world No. 277 Krawietz exclusively Told Tennis TourTalk after the match.
Krawietz broke Ilkel in the third game of the first set and then held on to his serve to claim the opener.
The German then secured a break in the fifth game of the second set and held on to his serve to seal the win.
Krawietz lost in the second round against Pablo Carreno Busta 6-7 4-6
