The eight-time ATP champion on grass and one of the best players on the fastest surface in the Open era, Lleyton Hewitt will be back in action in June, entering Surbiton Challenger doubles main draw with Jordan Thompson. The four-time Queen's winner and 2002 Wimbledon conqueror had retired from singles at the Australian Open in 2016 but has continued to occasionally play doubles with his young compatriots, reaching the semi-final with Alex Bolt here in Surbiton a year ago. Lleyton and Jordan reached the semi-final in Sydney at the beginning of 2019 and they also played together in Houston, losing in the first round.

Interestingly, Lleyton played his first professional match on grass in Surbiton 21 years ago and he is ready for another good result on his beloved surface. The 19-year-old Paul Jubb has won the NCAA singles title, defending the colors of the University of South Carolina, and he will make a Challenger debut in Surbiton, earning the main draw wild card together with Liam Broady, Evan Hoyt, Jan Choinski and Lloyd Glasspool.

“I always love playing on the grass and am glad to be back at Surbiton again this year. Looking forward to playing alongside another young Aussie, Jordan Thompson,” Lleyton Hewitt said.

“I’m delighted the LTA have given me a wildcard into the Surbiton Trophy. It will be my first time competing at this level of the tournament and I’m looking forward to testing myself on grass against some of the best players in the world,” Paul Jubb said.

“We are delighted to welcome Lleyton Hewitt back to the Surbiton Trophy after his appearance in 2018.  It is also thrilling to welcome Paul Jubb, following his great win in the US, to join other young British talents who have been awarded wild cards to the event, ticket holders will have a great opportunity to see a former Wimbledon champion in action alongside a wealth of future talent,” LTA Tournament Director George Donnelly said.
