Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov has split with his long-time coach Daniel Vallverdu.

Dimitrov, a former world No. 3, hasn't had a great season so far.

The Bulgarian made a solid start to the season as he reached the Brisbane quarter-final and Australian Open round-of-16 but has since won only four matches.

After a round-of-16 loss suffered against Rafael Nadal at the Monte Carlo Masters, Dimitrov picked up a surprise Barcelona Open round-of-16 loss to Nicolas Jarry the following week.

The Bulgarian, now ranked at No. 46, failed to lift his form at this week's Madrid Masters as Taylor Fritz handed him a straight-set defeat in the first round.

"After my match yesterday, Dani Vallverdu, my long-time coach and I sat down together. After three great years, we will be going our separate years. We had some career highlights and amazing moments in (the) court. I want to thank Dani for everything he has done for me and I wish him nothing but the best in his next endeavors," Dimitrov said in his statement.

It remains to be seen how will Dimitrov perform at the Rome Masters next week.
