German tennis star Alexander Zverev has defended his court positioning tactic after being criticized by two tennis legends, Boris Becker and John McEnroe.

Becker, a former world No. 1, and former seven-time Grand Slam champion McEnroe think the German stands too far behind the baseline.

However, 11-time ATP champion and world No. 5 Zverev sees nothing wrong with his court positioning as he says he has proved capable of achieving success with his current game-style.

"They have their opinion. I don't see it that way. Neither (my coach Ivan) Lendl or my father do. I (have) proved I can win big matches the way I play," Zverev told Jannik Schneider.

"If I play bad, Im too passive. If i play good, I can be one of the most aggressive players. It is more about where I hit and how I feel the ball. The discussion is a bit idiocy. Andy Murray can stand two metres before baseline but he will play different than Del Potro.

"Players like Delpo or myself we need time to swing. In exchange we have 10 times more power than other guys. Everyone has to adapt to his own constitution. Boris and John shouldn't put everyone in a group. They ran to the net their whole life. But every player is different."

Meanwhile, fifth-seeded Zverev is set to meet Serb Dusan Lajovic in the French Open as the 22-year-old is targeting to finally make a splash at the Grand Slam level.
