Marin Cilic loves tennis very much and would like to end his career on his own terms, despite the fact that his body has sent him very clear signals in recent years. The 2014 US Open champion was one of the most competitive players of this generation, one of the very few able to win a Grand Slam title in the Big 3’s era.
The Croatian player has carved out a prominent space for himself and has had an exceptional career, in which he also took away the satisfaction of defeating Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Marin not only won in New York eleven years ago, but he had the chance to win more Major titles.
Cilic reached the final at both the 2017 Wimbledon Championships and the 2018 Australian Open, losing to Swiss legend Federer on both occasions. The feeling is that – if there had not been these three monsters – he could have won even more prestigious titles and could have aspired to become world number 1.
Cilic doesn't give upThe Croatian ace has undergone two knee surgeries in the last year, the last in May 2024, trying to compete in the latter part of last season without great results. Marin is out of Belgrade ATP in November 2024 and – through his social profiles – he wanted to update fans on his current status.
“Hi all, you may have noticed I haven’t participated in this first month of the 2025 season, so I wanted to provide some updates,” Cilic explained. “Luckily, my knee is doing well and I wanted to take the opportunity to again thank everyone who helped with that recovery process, especially Dr. Cole (@brianjcolemd ) and his team for the incredible care they provided me.”
He continued: “Unfortunately, I had a few minor setbacks come up during my pre-season training and want to make sure those are 100% ready before I get back to competing. I’m doing everything I can to get back on tour as soon as possible and hope to join team Croatia in Osijek for the Davis Cup! Thanks for the continued support and well wishes.”
