Novak Djokovic has caught everyone's attention by announcing that Andy Murray will be his coach at the 2025 Australian Open. Although the Serbian ace has experienced one of the most complicated seasons of his entire career, no one could have imagined such a decision.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion didn't win a single title in 2024, but he saved his year thanks to his sensational run at the Paris Olympics over the summer. The former world No. 1 played his best tennis just when he needed it, winning the Olympic tournament without losing a single set and defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

For the first time since 2017 and for the second time since 2011, Nole has finished an entire season without winning a single Major title.
For all these reasons, 2025 will be a pivotal year for the continuation of his legendary career. The Serbian's main goal is to win his 25th Grand Slam title, perhaps already at the Australian Open, one of his favorite tournaments ever.
The 37-year-old from Belgrade will not be the top favorite at Melbourne Park as he has always been during his career, but he will start behind players like Sinner and Alcaraz.
Nole will play more in 2025The 24-time Grand Slam champion has already promised that in 2025 he will play more than last season and has announced that he will participate in the Brisbane International before the 2025 AO. The current world number 7 wants to arrive prepared for the Happy Slam, where he did not play his best tennis this year (losing to Sinner in the semifinals).
Novak will not be accompanied by Murray in Brisbane, but the former British champion will be regularly present in Melbourne from January 12. The 3-time Grand Slam champion retired from professional tennis this summer and no one thought he would have a new role on the tour so soon, but Andy loves tennis too much.

The Russian ace continued: “Novak Djokovic is one of the best players ever, he knows everything about tennis, that’s why I don’t know what Murray can bring him!?
The good thing is that they are good friends, so the energy will be positive. Novak can notice something different and therefore feel fresher and more motivated, and that sometimes means more than other things at that level.”
A fascinating collaborationEveryone is wondering what a former world number 1 like Murray will bring to Nole's game. The Serbian champion has realized that the hierarchies of the men's tour have changed in the last one and that he needs new solutions to return to win the most prestigious titles.
Novak could try to adopt a more aggressive tennis than in the past to shorten the duration of rallies and be more brilliant in the decisive moments of the various matches. Andy has no experience as a coach and some believe he needs time to really help Djokovic, but the feeling is that the Serbian desperately needs to get back to winning ways in 2025. The former world No. 1 will turn 38 next season and - if he doesn't win a single Major title in 2025 - he could start considering retirement.

You didn’t know what he was going to do, but you kind of sensed that he probably needed something, and something to motivate him. And obviously he goes way back with Andy.”
Brad also added: “The first thing I’ll want to do when I’m in Australia is just go watch Murray and Novak practice. It will be interesting, do they practise together? Is he practicing with a practice partner? And I want to see if I notice anything different early in the first round. As a coach myself and a former player, I’m kind of fascinated seeing if there is something different right away."
The 2025 Australian Open there will be the first answers about the future of one of the greatest athletes of the modern era.
