The 2025 season is officially on! Two ATP singles matches took place at the United Cup on Friday, with more to follow over the weekend. Two ATP 250 events will join the party next week, with selected players their first ATP titles of 2025 in Brisbane and Hong Kong.

Seven top-10 players will be in action at these three events, shaping up their form in the official duels. However, three notable names will enter the Australian Open without competitive encounters in 2025.

Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Danii Medvedev will not show their cards before the first Major of the season. Is this a strategic absence or a risky gamble? We will find out in four weeks.

Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud and Alex de Minaur are at the United Cup, leading their countries at a team event. The German went all the way last year and wants to repeat that in 2025 alongside Laura Siegemund.

Novak Djokovic and Grigor Dimitrov, the "Balkan besties," will fight for the ATP title in Brisbane. While Grigor is already at the place where he won the title a year ago, Novak has yet to land in Australia.

Djokovic is on a trail for his 100th ATP title, and he would love to win it ahead of the Australian Open and gain a boost. Andrey Rublev is alone in Hong Kong, seeking the title defense and 250 ATP points.

Unlike them, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev will step on the court in Melbourne in almost two weeks. World no. 1 Sinner mirrored his 2024 schedule. The defending champion played no official matches ahead of Melbourne.

It did not stop him from winning his first Major crown over Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev. Jannik will try to repeat that in January. He will embrace only one match at Rod Laver Arena versus Alexei Popyrin on January 7.

A day later, Carlos Alcaraz will face Alex de Minaur in his only pre-Australian Open test. The young Spaniard has played only one tournament ahead of the Australian Open, entering the ATP 250 event in Melbourne in 2021.

Like in 2022 and 2024, Alcaraz opted to avoid official matches before the first Major of the season. Last year's quarter-finalist will chase a Career Grand Slam at the Australian Open at only 21!

The three-time beaten Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev loves to compete before the Australian Open. However, he changed that pattern in 2024 and repeated it for the new season.

The Russian entered this year's Australian Open without playing official matches and reached the final, wasting a massive two sets to love advantage against Sinner.

It will be interesting to follow Sinner, Alcaraz and Medvedev against the rivals who opted to test their game earlier than them.
