Denis Shapovalov did not appreciate the new rules that will concern coaching and that will be applied starting from next season. In fact, starting from January 1, 2025, there will be important changes in the tennis rules regarding coaching between coach in the stands and player on the court. In fact, the possibility of talking between coach and player is expanded, the restrictive constraints on communication between staff in the stands and tennis player are dropped. The new rules, which can be consulted in their entirety on the ITF website, have however generated controversy. ITF has stated that coaches will be allowed to advise their players off the court. The aim is also to remove this control task from referees, limiting, at the same time, the possibility of subjective application of sanctions.

Shapovalov, however, has already made it known through a post that he does not agree with these innovations at all.

"Why do you try to change the beauty of this game? Not only as a tennis player, but also as a fan of this sport, it is sad to see these new rules on coaching. Tennis is special because you are alone on the court. Why are you trying to change the beauty of this game?" he wrote.

In the last session of the ITF assembly in Hong Kong, the changes in the rules were approved but the Canadian has already made it known that he is firmly against it.

Below you can read the original post shared by the Canadian throught his X account:

A few days ago, instead, the Canadian had expressed his opinion on Jannik Sinner's doping issue, in an interview with TennisMajors, explaining quite clearly what he thinks of the matter: "Some players have contaminated the substances and have been sanctioned for years, while for other players it is not the same. WADA should have intervened immediately. They should have warned after the first positive test. Now Sinner is tortured and has to play in these circumstances. If the decisive people have decided that he is clean, then this should be in the WADA guidelines. If they already have the information they should not reverse the situation. It is not clear for the players."

Expressing on his physical condition, Denis analyzed: "Now the knee is fine, but I'm still trying to get back to my top level. I'm definitely in a different phase of my career. I've been through a lot: a big rise, a small fall, a serious injury. I'm getting more experienced. I think my tennis is there, but I'm struggling a little bit to maintain my high level day after day. For this reason I've had a lot of results where I beat high-level players, but the next day I didn't play well and I was tired."
