The 2024 Paris Olympics ended yesterday and gave so many emotions as in every edition. The Olympic tennis tournament took place in the first week of the Games and was held in the same venue as the French Open, a suggestive setting that made the event even more exciting.

The men’s tournament final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic was one of the most beautiful matches of the season so far, with the Serbian champion finally achieving his dream of winning the gold medal for his country.

Tennis was very popular at this edition of the Olympics, thanks to the epic second round match between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal that attracted the attention of many fans of other sports. Despite some male and female absences, the Olympic tennis tournament was a success in every respect.

The Olympic tennis tournament no longer awards ATP and WTA points, but there were almost all the best players in the world. The biggest absences were certainly those of Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, but the spectacle of the Olympics manages to overcome any unforeseen event. Tennis does not have the same Olympic tradition as other sports, but it is making its way into the world over the years.

The next Olympics will be in LA

The next Olympics will be held in Los Angeles in 2028. Despite the fact that four years remain to go, the venue of the Olympic tennis tournament in California is already well known. The tennis players will play in Carson, with a Centre Court of about 7000 seats. The Centre Court - which hosted a WTA tournament until 2009 - is located next to the Los Angeles Galaxy stadium. Despite the facilities being equipped with all comforts and technology, there is no doubt that this location has much less appeal than Wimbledon and the French Open (where the Olympic tennis tournament was played in 2012 and 2024 respectively).

If there are no unforeseen events, Spanish ace Carlos Alcaraz and Italian star Jannik Sinner will be the two big favorites for the gold medal in Los Angeles 2028. The Italian ace has never participated in the Games yet, having missed both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 (due to a tonsillitis).

Recently, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic shocked the world when he said that he could participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics (when he will be 41 years old). "This is probably the biggest sporting success I have ever had and the most special feeling," said Nole Djokovic in Paris.

"I thought carrying the flag at the opening ceremony for my country at the 2012 Olympics was the best feeling an athlete could have until today. Now at the age of 37 and facing a 21-year-old who is probably the best player in the world right now, winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon back-to-back, I can say that this is probably the biggest sporting success I have ever had. I want to play in Los Angeles, I enjoy playing for my country in the Olympic Games, in the Davis Cup," he continued.

Beyond his statements, it seems unlikely that Novak can be present in LA in four years. However, his former coach Goran Ivanisevic made some surprising statements: "Novak didn't show up in the Wimbledon final, but here you could tell ... If they stayed for five more hours on that court, the outcome would have been the same. Novak Djokovic was flying, he was dancing. People forgot this was his first Olympics final, he felt this is it, he has to seize this opportunity. Considering how crazy he is, it wouldn't surprise me to see him in Los Angeles as well."

The Olympics are magical

After losing in the final of the Paris Olympics, Alcaraz said he will work hard to win the gold medal at Los Angeles 2028. "The Olympic Games is one of the most special competitions. Being able to represent your flag and your country at the Olympics is one of the greatest things in sports in general. It has been super exciting for me to compete and try to bring joy to all Spaniards in every match.

The support I have had here all week is greatly appreciated. I wanted to return the affection shown to me with the gold medal, but I am also very happy to think that we tried to represent Spain in the best possible way, and all Spaniards were there supporting me every minute” – Carlitos stated.

All the top players should be present in LA, since the Olympic tournament will also be a great test in view of the US Open.
