Jannik Sinner resolved the tonsillitis that prevented him from participating in the Paris Olympics and is ready to return to the tennis court. The world number 1 - who will not lose points over Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic because the Olympics do not award ATP points - will be the main favourite for the victory in the Masters 1000 of Montreal next week.

The 2024 Australian Open champion will have to defend his 1,000 points from last year’s Toronto Masters, when he won the first Masters 1000 in his young career. The Italian has made a huge leap in quality over the last year, he has solved his physical problems and has become the main reference of the men’s tour together with Carlos Alcaraz.

Jannik was the most consistent player in the early part of 2024, having won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and his second Masters 1000 in Miami in spring. We expected even more brilliant results from Sinner at the French Open and especially at the Wimbledon Championships, where he was eliminated by the Russian Daniil Medvedev also because of a flu virus. When Jannik announced that he would not be competing in the Paris Olympics, Italian fans did not take his decision well and accused him of little attachment to the Italian flag. The 22-year-old from San Candido also gave up the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

Sinner will play the doubles in Canada

Jannik Sinner - who has been training for several days in Canada - has a good chance of achieving a great result in Montreal. Because of the Paris Olympics, so many players decided to skip this Masters 1000. There will be no Spaniard ace Carlos Alcaraz and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, who will compete for the gold medal tomorrow in Paris. Among the absent are also Alex de Minaur, Jan-Lennard Struff, Lorenzo Musetti, Francisco Cerundolo and Sebastian Baez. Meanwhile, it was announced that Sinner will also play the doubles tournament alongside Briton Jack Draper.

The Italian knows he is in the center of attention right now, but has always kept a detached attitude towards criticism and does not look much at social media. "I'm not on social media too much... I don't care about being famous. I know I'll always have my loved ones that I truly love, and that goes beyond whether I have millions of people following me or just a couple," Jannik Sinner explained. "I'll always be loyal to those people. What's more important than being surrounded by my family, who are proud of me, and my friends, who have known me since I was a kid? You can live without all that, whether you're a tennis player or not," he continued.

World number 1 doesn’t like social media: "Social media does not reflect real life. Tomorrow I can upload a photo of me smiling and being completely depressed inside, but that's something people won't see. They will only say that I am happy all the time, which is false. I feel like that's not healthy. My agent is in charge of my publications, I check that everything that is uploaded is correct, but you can be sure that I will never share anything that has to do with my private life.”

Jannik doesn’t like social media

Jannik received a lot of attention for having started a love story with his colleague Anna Kalinskaya, together with whom he was spotted on holiday in Sardinia a few weeks ago. Contrary to what the haters claim, Sinner was very sorry when he announced that he would not participate in the Paris Olympics.

“I am saddened to inform you that unfortunately I will not be able to participate in the Paris Olympic Games. After a good week of clay training I started to feel unwell. I spent a couple of days resting and during a visit the doctor found tonsillitis and strongly advised me against playing. Missing the Games is a huge disappointment since it was one of my main goals for this season. I couldn't wait to have the honor of representing my country in this very important event. Good luck to all the Italian athletes who I will support from home. Forza Italy” – he wrote on X.

The Italian had been formidable in the Davis Cup Finals at the end of last year, dragging his country to a historic victory that was missing for many years. Italian fans will never forget the three consecutive match points that Jannik cancelled on Novak Djokovic during the tie against Serbia. An important episode for the final victory in Malaga.
