At the time of the suspension, Thai golfer Atthaya Thitikul led the pack at -11 through 12 holes. She held a one-stroke lead over a surging Brooke Henderson from Canada, who was at -10 through 17 holes, tied with world number one Nelly Korda of the USA, also at -10 through 11 holes, and South Korean Jin Hee Im, who was at -9.

Chinese golfer Weiwei Zhang claimed seventh place at -7 through 12 holes, while eighth place belonged to Swedish golfer Maja Stark at -6, also through 12 holes.

A sizable group was tied for ninth place, although only the first two mentioned had completed their rounds. This group included South Korean Jiyai Shin, German Esther Henseleit, Japanese players Nasa Hataoka and Minami Katsu, Americans Marina Alex, Auston Kim, and Yealimi Noh, Spanish golfer Carlota Ciganda, New Zealander Lydia Ko, Swedish golfer Anna Nordqvist, and English golfer Jodi Ewart Shadoff, all at -5.

The rules of golf form a set of standard norms and procedures governing how the sport of golf should be played. They are collectively written and managed by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf worldwide, except for the United States and Mexico, which fall under the jurisdiction of the United States Golf Association. A panel of experts composed of members from the R&A and USGA oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision has been in effect since January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those aimed at improving understanding and those that, in certain cases, reduce penalties to ensure balance.

The rule book, titled "Rules of Golf," is regularly published and also includes regulations governing amateur status. In Italy, the Italian Golf Federation (Federgolf) is responsible for overseeing competitions, ensuring compliance with the rules issued by the R&A, and ensuring that these rules are observed by clubs, associations, their members, and managing the resulting sports justice, while also safeguarding their interests abroad.
