The victory of the European team at the Ryder Cup caused euphoria. After lifting the trophy, the European players requested that their captain Luke Donald perform the same role in two years, when the Ryder Cup will be played in the USA. Thomas Bjorn, one of the vice-captains of the European team, believes that it is necessary to fulfill the wishes of the players. Donald did a great job and got everyone's support.

“For this generation of players, I am very much in favour that it’s them, they decide what they want and how they want it,”-Bjorn told The Scotsman .

From the first day the team met together, it was clear that there is a great relationship within the team, and that Donald is one of the most deserving of it. Luke placed a strong emphasis on unity, conversations between players, and getting to know each other better. As a result, he developed a connection with the players. Several factors contributed to the European team's victory, including this connection.

“The relationship between the captain and the players is so close today and I think they seem very keen on it at the moment. You have to let things settle before you make any decision, but, if that’s what they want and they believe it’s the right thing for them, then I think you have to listen to that."

Thomas Bjorn: I’d like to see Luke do it again

It is Bjorn's belief that Donald should remain the captain for many reasons. What's the point of changing things that have proven to be successful? The European team's future depends on making certain decisions with "calm heads," according to Bjorn. The prospect of Donald being around for a long time will be interesting.

“I think we‘ve always had the thought that nobody should do it twice (Bernard Gallacher was the last multiple captain when he did three in a row from 1991-1995), but that was also because we had a lot of people lined up to do so there was a natural progression. I don’t think that’s there now.

I’d like to see Luke do it again. If he was up for it and he thinks it is the right thing for him and the players would love the idea, why would you not go with that? But maybe that conversation needs to take place in six to eight weeks when things have settled down.”
