Novak Djokovic says he is "proud" if Rafael Nadal indeed declared him the best in tennis history. Last month, Djokovic became the first-ever male player with 24 Grand Slams after winning the US Open. Earlier this year, Djokovic made it past Nadal on the all-time Grand Slam record list when he won his 23rd Slam at the French Open. Days after Djokovic's US Open win, Nadal acknowledged that statistically Djokovic is the best ever in tennis history. "I'm proud if Nadal said [there were no debate on who is the greatest, it was the journalist's question], but I'm not the one having to talk about that. I have to focus on my goals and my greatest pride is to still be able to compete at this level," Djokovic said, via Tennis Majors.

"I believe that numbers are numbers and statistics are statistics. In that sense, I think he (Djokovic) has better numbers than mine and that is indisputable. This is the truth. The rest are tastes, inspiration, sensations that one or the other may transmit to you, that you may like one or the other more. I think that with respect to titles, Djokovic is the best in history and there is nothing to discuss about that," Nadal recently told AS. When the 2023 season started, Nadal owned the all-time Grand Slam record with 22 Majors. But then, Nadal suffered what turned out to be a season-ending psoas injury at the Australian Open. While Nadal was sidelined, Djokovic won three Grand Slams. Lately, Nadal has been working hard on being able to return at the start of the 2024 season. In May, Nadal announced his plans to have his farewell in 2024. How things stand now, many believe that the Grand Slam battle between Djokovic and Nadal is over and won by the Serb.
