Dr. Angel Ruiz-Cotorro says "competitive" Rafael Nadal is doing everything possible to recover and return from an injury sustained to his psoas muscle. Nadal, 37, hasn't played since the Australian Open but he is hoping to return to action in 2024 and play his final season. "Nadal has a very high mental health base. He is a very strong person, he has shown it in all his years of competition. Really, it is one of his strengths," Cotorro said on IB3 TV. After suffering an injury to his psoas muscle at the Australian Open, Nadal was targeting to return to action around March. But then, Nadal suffered several setbacks in his recovery and that led to him being forced to skip the French Open. That was the moment Nadal decided to surgically address the issue in early June. "When you have an injury of this type, you come fighting and then you see that you can't and you have to have surgery... It is a difficult situation. You have to help him, from all points of view," Cotorro said.
Cotorro on Nadal: He will return once again"He, since he knows this process and wants to play again, is doing everything possible to make it happen. He has already shown us other times that he has returned, he will return once again," Cotorro said. In a special press conference held in May, Nadal revealed his plans to retire from pro tennis in 2024. In late September, Nadal spoke with Spanish media, where he was asked about his intention to end his astonishing tennis career next year. When asked if there was a possibility of him playing beyond 2024, Nadal suggested that could happen if he returns feeling healthy and competitive. But also, Nadal highlighted that he indeed expects 2024 to be his final season on the Tour.
