Ryder Cup, dinner

At the Taverna Trilussa, a historic restaurant in Rome opened in 1910, the American team led by Zach Johnson last night delighted in typical traditional dishes. "They went crazy with joy for dinner, especially when we served them pasta amatriciana. They drank a wine from Lazio and I found sympathy and humility in them. When I said that we were sincerely proud to have had them in our club, the captain was almost moved and all the players hugged me.

They proved to be simple people, really approachable", said the owner of the Taverna Trilussa, Massimo Pirola.

Imposing security service for the occasion, including bodyguards and state and municipal police personnel in tow. "For this dinner, the affected area of Trastevere was completely cleared. At 7.00 pm, before the start of the evening, two dogs from the anti-terrorism unit arrived at the restaurant for a check, I had never seen anything like this" Pirola explained again.

After dinner at the Taverna Trilussa, the US team treated themselves to an ice cream in Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere. Today the return to the United States, waiting for the Ryder Cup.

The competition, named after the trophy donated by Englishman Samuel Ryder (1858–1936) to the American federation in 1924, is co-managed by the European Tour and the PGA of America.

From 1927 to 1971 the tournament took place between the selection of the United States and that of Great Britain, with a clear American dominance (15-3) and only one draw. Ireland was incorporated into Great Britain in 1973 and the rest of continental Europe in 1979. Following the acceptance of the European team as an antagonist of the US team, the tournament was much more balanced: from 1979 to 2018, in fact, there were eleven successes for Europe, eight for the United States and only one draw.
