Daniil Medvedev cheekily hit back at "desperate" Carlos Alcaraz fans after sealing a win over the defending US Open champion in the semifinal. On Friday night in front of a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium, Medvedev defeated top-seeded Alcaraz 7-6 (3) 6-1 3-6 6-3 to reach his third US Open final. After the match, Medvedev praised the US Open crowd but also had a message for those who attempted to distract him when he was serving for the match in the ninth game of the fourth set. “I have to be honest, the crowd was unbelievable today. Like absolutely unbelievable and I mean it. We had some crazy points, I felt, let’s call it love to both sides. The only thing is probably 1,000 Spanish guys started at 5-3 screaming during first and second serves. That’s not so nice. I guess they were desperate, so I’m happy it didn’t help them. They can go to sleep now," Medvedev said on ESPN.

After losing to Rafael Nadal in the 2019 US Open final, Medvedev lifted his first Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows two years ago when he defeated Djokovic in the final. Exactly two years ago, Medvedev handed Djokovic a straight-set defeat in the US Open final and prevented the Serb from becoming the first player since 1969 to win all four Grand Slams in the same season. Medvedev may have easily beaten Djokovic two years ago but he warns he doesn't expect an easy win again. “The challenge is you play a guy who has won 23 Grand Slams and I have only one,” Medvedev said. It remains to be seen if Medvedev can beat Djokovic again in the US Open final.
