A study conducted in Australia has shown that Nick Kyrgios is the second most popular athlete in Australia. Australian sports betting experts BettingTop10 Australia, who conducted the study, used several factors in determining the most popular Australian athletes.

“Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram followers, along with the number of likes, comments, and engagement rate over the past seven days, were determined. These counts were subsequently incorporated into an index and subjected to a logarithmic transformation to mitigate skewed distribution. The average monthly search volumes for keywords in Australia over the past 12 months were obtained for each sportsperson. These search volumes were aggregated by the sportsperson and then included in the index after undergoing a logarithmic transformation," the study conductors explained.

Kyrgios comes in second on the list

The first on the list was Australian F1 star Daniel Ricciardo, who had an impact score of 87.53 out of 100. On social media, Ricciardo has a following of 13 million. Behind Ricciardo is Kyrgios, who netted 80.33 out of 100. In the last year, there were over 311k internet searches of Kyrgios coming from Australia alone. The third on the list is Australian NBA star Ben Simmons. Meanwhile, Kyrgios has been limited to just one tournament so far in 2023. After undergoing knee surgery in January and kicking off his season in Stuttgart last month, Kyrgios suffered a wrist injury that forced him to miss Wimbledon. This week, Kyrgios was scheduled to compete at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, Kyrgios' wrist injury hasn't healed and he is taking more time to recover before returning to action.

"I just want to let you know that I am still recovering and getting my wrist right to be back on the court soon. Don’t worry though! I will still be coming to LA and the UTS event. Maybe I’ll coach… any suggestions?" Kyrgios announced.
