151st Open Championship the qualifying day

Today is July 4, a day universally known as the anniversary in which the United States celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, with which thirteen colonies detached from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

But this year, incidentally, is also the day on which the final four qualifying rounds for the 151st Open Championship are held, which will take place from 20 to 23 July at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Tomorrow almost 300 players (and the field is absolutely respectable, NDR) will take to the field on four different courses to compete for the nineteen places available for Hoylake over the 36 holes.

Dundonald Links

The course is a par 72 from 7,269 yards.

The original design of Willie Fernie, 1893 Champion Golfer of the Year was revisited in 2003 by Kyle Phillips, after the course was purchased by Loch Lomond Golf Club.

Robert Rock (winner of the Italian Open in 2011), Michael Block (the hero of the Oak Hill PGA Championship), Scott Calum (talented Scottish amateur) and Jason Kokrak will take the field here.

Royal Cinque Ports

Par 72 from 7,334 yards, established in 1892.

The club hosted the Open Championship in 1909 and 1920.

Here David Howell, the South African Dean Burmester, Wade Ormsby will take the field. Branden Grace and Antoine Rozner.

Royal Porthcawl

The course is a par 71 with 7,061 yards.

The Welsh club took over for the final round of qualifying from Burnham and Berrow Golf Club, which was hit hard by the drought last year.

Celebrities taking the field on the banks of the Bristol Channel are Matthew Southgate, Thomas Aiken, Anirban Lahiri, Laurie Canter and Oliver Bekker.

West Lancashire

It is a par 72 with a length of 6,973 yards.

It is one of the oldest clubs in England (founded in 1872).

The original design is the result of a collaborative project between Harold Hilton (member of the club and two-time winner of the Open, in 1892 and 1897) and James Braid (who won 5 of Opne).

Here the real superstar, Sergio Garcia, will take the field.

Alongside the Spaniard will be another excellent name and another LIV player, Graeme McDowell.

Joining them will be Jamie Donaldson, Alex Fitzpatrick (brother of Matthew) and Maximilian Kieffer.

I close by recalling our standard-bearers who will try to get one of the 19 places up for grabs: Davide Buchi (Royal Cinque Ports), Adalberto Montini (West Lancashire) and the only amateur, Tomasz Boniek (Dundonald Links).
