Stefanos Tsitsipas identifies one reason behind Novak Djokovic's Grand Slam success

Stefanos Tsitsipas suggests Novak Djokovic has figured out a perfect formula of how to play just well enough to make it past the opening couple of rounds at a Grand Slam tournament. 

At this year's French Open, there have been several upsets in the first couple of rounds.

In the men's event, five top-10 players exited the tournament through the first three rounds.

Four top-10 WTA players also bowed out of the women's event through the first three rounds. 

But when it comes to fifth-ranked Tsitsipas - so far so good for the Greek - who saw off Diego Schwartzman 6-2 6-2 6-3 to reach the French Open round-of-16.

"You know, upsets, it's a thing. It's happening to everyone. It has happened to most of us on early rounds and we learn through that how to avoid them and how to kind of build a safe net where we can start a little bit more kind of add in terms of risk in our game later on. Something that has, I feel like Novak Djokovic has been doing very well in terms of his Grand Slam appearances. He has been starting Grand Slams, I wouldn't say playing incredible tennis, but just enough to get him through in the first few rounds," Tsitsipas said, via Sportskeeda.

At the start of the 2023 season, 24-year-old Tsitsipas made his second Grand Slam final at the Australian Open.

Unfortunately for Tsitsipas, he fell a win away from becoming a Grand Slam champion after suffering a three-set defeat to Djokovic in the final.

So far in his career, Tsitsipas has played in two Grand Slam finals - both took on Djokovic.

Previously, Tsitsipas was up by two sets against Djokovic in the 2021 French Open final before the Serb stormed back to win in five sets.

Now, Tsitsipas is hoping to make his big Grand Slam breakthrough at the ongoing French Open.
