The Memorial Tournament is being hosted by Jack Nicklaus this year. Prior to the start of the tournament, Nicklaus spoke with the media about the golf stars who moved to LIV Golf. They won't have the chance to play in this tournament. The golf legend believes that LIV Golfers do not deserve a place on the golf scene.
“I don’t really consider those guys part of the game anymore and I don’t mean that in a nasty way… or really mean it that way.
To me, this is a PGA Tour event and we’ve got the best field we can possibly have on the PGA Tour. Those who are eligible to be here. The other guys made a choice to go where they went. We don’t really talk about it."- Nicklaus said, as quoted by golfmonthly.com
LIV Golfers' and their potential returnIn terms of the future of Cameron Smith and Brooks Koepka on the PGA Tour, Jack Nicklaus is not in favor of their return. Even though both of them do not have such plans, many people believe that things will change in the future, and many LIV Golfers will be interested in returning. This is not an option that Nicklaus is in favor of.
“No, I don’t. They’ve made a choice for what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. And that’s fine. I don’t have any issue with any of those guys."
Jack emphasized that he has nothing against these guys, but he wants certain principles to be respected.
“I see six or seven of them who are members at the Bear’s Club [Nicklaus’s club in Florida]. It’s not an issue. They get along with the guys fine. It’s just where they chose to play golf. And I look at what the PGA Tour is and who the members are. And they’ve actually spurred the PGA Tour to get better."
