University of Virginia ladies sweep Princeton to reach NCAA Sweet 16

The University of Virginia women's tennis team beat Princeton 4-0 in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Women's Tennis Team Championship on Saturday at the Virginia Tennis Facility at Boar's Capo Resort.

Freshman Annabelle Xu grabbed the game for the Cavaliers. Xu rebounded from a 6-0 first set loss to Zoe Howard on court three of hers to win the second of her two sets 6-3, 6-4.

This is the eighth time in program history that the team has advanced to the round of 16 and the third time in a row for head coach Sara O'Leary.

Virginia will travel to face Michigan on Saturday, May 13 at 1 PM. in the Ann Arbor Super Regional. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals which will be held at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida.

Coach Sara O'Leary said: "Congratulations to Princeton on a well played game. They earned it for us. I also just want to thank everyone who came out to support us today. It was a great atmosphere and made a difference, so thank you! I'm proud of the tenacity we showed in every game. I think playing in the ACC conference and playing so many competitive games during the season has really prepared us for this game. We are definitely battle tested and can't wait to play in Michigan next weekend!"
