Leaders in turn since Thursday of the Abu Dhabi Challenge, the Englishmen Tom Lewis and Joshua Grenville-Wood were finally beaten by the experienced Ricardo Gouveia, 31. The Portuguese, third at the end of the Moving Day with four strokes behind Lewis, managed to reverse the trend thanks in particular to a magnificent eagle on par 5 of 18 at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, famous for having hosted between 2006 and 2021 one of the most important tournaments of the season on the DP World Tour (Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship).
Ricardo Gouveia, resultsGouveia, author of a final 66 (-6), won his sixth victory in the Emirates on the Challenge Tour. The first since the Made in Esbjerg Challenge in Denmark on August 14, 2021. At -19 (269), he leaves Lewis and Grenville-Wood two lengths behind him, but also South African Wilco Nienaber and Spaniard Ivan Cantero Gutierrez.
With this success, the Portuguese golfer grabs 9th place in the Road to Mallorca, still firmly dominated by Ugo Coussaud. The pupil of Olivier Léglise, 70 (-2) in this last lap, grabbed 15th final place here at -10 (278) with Julien Sale, also owner of a 70. Best tricolor on Saturday evening (7th at - 10), Tom Vaillant was satisfied with a 73 (+1). He fell to 21st position at -9 (279).
Further on, we find Gary Stal (40th at -5) then the amateur Martin Couvra (54th at -2), Félix Mory (65th at +1) and finally Mathieu Decottignies-Lafon (71st at +4).
The Challenge Tour remains in Abu Dhabi for another week but changes course. The UAE Challenge ($300,000 endowment) will be played between Thursday and Sunday on the sublime seaside course of the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club (par 72 of 6,995 meters) designed by the legendary Gary Player.
Ricardo Gouveia is a Portuguese professional golfer. Gouveia played college golf at Lynn University and the University of Central Florida. He played on the European Palmer Cup winning team in 2014. Gouveia turned professional in 2014 and plays on the Challenge Tour.
