Andy Murray recounts 'incredible' Madrid final win over Rafael Nadal

Andy Murray said it was "incredible" to clinch a pretty comfortable win over Rafael Nadal in the 2015 Madrid Masters final.

In the 2015 Madrid final - playing against the greatest clay-court player ever and Spanish tennis fans - Murray pulled off a stunning 6-3 6-2 victory over Nadal. 

Murray, who became a Madrid champion in 2008, clinched his second title at Caja Magica after beating Nadal in 2015.

“That was amazing for me. I think I had won the tournament in Munich the week before and the final got rained off and got delayed to Monday and we arrived really late. Me and Kohlschreiber played the first match after midnight. We finished really late and I was not really feeling very good in the beginning of the week. I was tired and everything managed to push through and finished with obviously winning against Rafa in the final was incredible," Murray said, per Sportskeeda.

Murray also remembers well his first Madrid title

In the 2008 Madrid semifinal, Murray defeated Roger Federer. 

In the other semifinal, Nadal and Gilles Simon played an absolute thriller before the Frenchman won in three sets after over three and a half hours of play.

While Nadal and Simon were leaving it all out there, Murray was happily watching and rooting for the match to last as long as possible.

In the 2008 Madrid final, Murray earned a 6-4 7-6 win.

“My team actually asked me about that the other day. That was when it was on the indoor hard courts. And I don’t remember that much about the match but I remember that I was in my room and the night before he was playing against Rafa in the semifinals. They played for like three hours and 40 minutes and I was just like loving it. That’s actually my biggest memory from the week," Murray said.

After winning his second Madrid title in 2015, Murray also reached the final at Caja Magica in 2016 before losing to Novak Djokovic.
