LET moves from Saudi Arabia to South Africa

The Ladies European Tour moves from Saudi Arabia to South Africa for the Joburg Ladies Open, organized in collaboration with the Sunshine Ladies Tour and scheduled from 1st to 4th March on the course of the Modderfontein Golf Club, in Johannesburg, where they will field two Italian players, Virginia Elena Carta and Alessandra Fanali.

On the eve of the fourth seasonal event of the European women's circuit, the South African Lee-Anne Pace, 42, from Paarl, attracts attention, with a victory on the PGA Tour, eleven titles on the LET, the last ones in her own country (Investec South African Women's Open, 2021 -2022) and, net of these two, twelve successes on the Sunshine Ladies Tour. Among the favorites also her compatriots Nicole Garcia and Cassandra Alexander, who prevailed in the last two events on her home circuit.

Among the favorites are other players such as the Czech Klara Spilkova, the Swedish Johanna Gustavsson, the Spanish Ana Pelaez Trivino, the Argentine Magdalena Simmermacher, the German Leonie Harm and the English Meghan MacLaren and Alice Hewson. Also worth following are some athletes promoted by LET Access and, in particular, the Czech Sara Kouskova, number one on the 2022 money list, the New Zealander Momoka Kobori (n. 3), the German Patricia Isabel Schmidt (n. 4) and the Dutch Lauren Holmes (No. 5).

Virginia Elena Carta played all the first three races finishing in the order ninth (Kenya Open), 54th (Lalla Meryem Cup) and suffering a cut in the last outing (Saudi International). Alessandra Fanali, who took the 'card' at the Qualifying School in December, only participated in the first two tournaments, obtaining a 38th and a seventh place.

The Joburg Ladies Open is a women's professional golf tournament held in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is an event on the Southern Africa-based Sunshine Ladies Tour since 2015 and starting in 2022 co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour.

It was played at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club until 2017. It moved to Modderfontein in 2018 and on to the refurbished Soweto Country Club for the following three years.
