Iga Swiatek: "I'm working a lot on myself"

The number one in the world Iga Swiatek left nothing to her opponent Emma Raducanu, in what many considered the day's match of the women's round of 16. The British, winner of the US Open 2021, tried, but she appeared very far from the current ruler of the women's Tour.

She said: "The first set was very tight, I'm happy I was solid in the important moments of the match. In the second set we saw it and I'm happy with all these things I've been working on. Today I felt more similar than in the past and both my coach and I now have great confidence. At the start of the tournament I was worried about the temperature rising but in reality the conditions are not as bad as for example last year when the weather was warm and the air dry.

I'm quite happy with everything and I feel that I'm playing better and better. How do I prepare for strong serves from my opponents? Honestly it's not a problem, I often train with men who have much faster serve speeds, obviously they have an advantage with serve points but at the same time they struggle more then on slower surfaces.

I try to find confidence in my game and in other parts. We had several long exchanges against Emma, it wasn't easy but I was patient and chose the right things to do."

Finally on the Quarters with the Romanian Cirstea: "We haven't faced each other for a long time, but we often train together and I know how insidious it can be. I have to prepare the match well tactically but I'll be ready for anything, she absolutely deserves these Quarters."
