Stan Wawrinka says he is excited about representing Switzerland again in the Davis Cup again.

In 2014, Wawrinka and Roger Federer led Switzerland to the Davis Cup title.

This weekend in Trier, Wawrinka is set to represent Switzerland for the first time since 2015.

"I always said that I would like to play once again for my country in Davis Cup and that I am available to play if I can bring support to the team. I love playing for Switzerland and we have a great team, we know each other quite well, even though I am the oldest!" Wawrinka said of his Davis Cup return, per the Davis Cup website.

Wawrinka set to play Alexander Zverev

In the second match of the Switzerland and Germany tie, Wawrinka will be taking on Zverev.

On Thursday, Swiss Davis Cup team captain Severin Luthi admitted he is "incredibly happy" to have Wawrinka back in the team.

"We are incredibly happy to have him back on the team. The young players can profit immensely from him and it’s also a huge motivation and inspiration for everyone to have him back," Swiss captain Luthi said.

Wawrinka, who is now ranked at No 135 in the world, is seemingly past his prime.

But 2020 US Open finalist Zverev also isn't playing his best tennis as the German is still searching for his top form after returning from a long injury break.

In Australia, Zverev went 1-3.

However, Zverev is in good spirits as he is happy to be healthy again.

"I'm doing wonderfully – that was also the case in Australia. I've spent the last few weeks training hard. Now it's time to transport that into the match. I hope I'll get that better implemented here than in Australia," Zverev said before facing Wawrinka.

Going into the match, Zverev owns a 4-0 head-to-head against Wawrinka.
