American tennis star Jessica Pegula got bageled on her 29th birthday and later turned to Doritos while waiting to get on a 24-hour flight back home.
On Friday, Pegula turned 29 and suffered a 6-1 5-7 6-0 loss against Barbora Krejcikova in the semifinal of a WTA 1000 event in Dubai.
After the match, Pegula bought herself a bag of Doritos and started making memes.
Everyone: “What is it like playing on tour? It must be so amazing!” Me: gets bagled on your birthday, sitting eating Doritos at midnight, waiting to get on a 16 hr flight home. 🤣 pic.twitter.com/5YqSZ0xHx5

Meanwhile, Krejcikova spoke extremely highly of Pegula after their match, calling the American "a great player."
"I felt good, even though the second set didn't go my way. I was still thinking that I had a big chance, and was going for my shots and just try to play my best tennis. I had to against Jessica, she's a great player, and I'm really happy that I was able to do that," Krejcikova said after beating Pegula.
Pegula has been very consistent so far in 2023In 2022, Pegula won just one title but she was constantly reaching the latter stages in tournaments.
At the start of the 2023 season, Pegula is again among one of the most consistent players.
Pegula kicked off her 2023 season at the United Cup, where she helped the United States win the title.
After the United Cup, Pegula reached the Australian Open quarterfinal.
Last week, Pegula made the Doha final before losing to world No 1 Iga Swiatek.
This week, Pegula capped off her Middle East Swing with a semifinal showing in Dubai.
Had Pegula defeated Krejcikova in the Dubai semifinal, she would have played again against Swiatek.
Unfortunately for Pegula, she fell just short of making back-to-back finals in the Middle East.
Now, Pegula will probably take a few days to rest.
Then, Pegula will try to make strong runs at the upcoming WTA 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami.
Pegula has been playing well so far and she will certainly be among the contenders for the titles in Indian Wells and Miami.
