Former 18-time Grand Slam men's doubles champion Mike Bryan is picking Roger Federer as the greatest player in tennis history.
Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, is now the third on the all-time Grand Slam record list.
Even though Federer doesn't own the all-time Grand Slam record anymore, Bryan feels it's the Swiss who deserves to be considered as the greatest in tennis history.
“For me it has to be Roger Federer,” Bryan told Tennis365. “Those few years when he was dominating, he barely lost any matches. The way he does is it always so smooth. He doesn’t sweat, he just like a zen master. He is also the most relaxed in the locker room. Before a Wimbledon final, he laughing in the dressing room like it’s a Sunday afternoon in the park. When it’s all said and done, who knows who will have all the records, but I will always have a special place in my heart for Roger.”
Bryan on the greatness of Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak DjokovicNadal currently owns a record 22 Grand Slams, while Djokovic has 21 Majors.
With Federer turning 41 and being out for over a year now, tennis fans think the battle for the all-time Grand Slam record has come down to between Nadal and Djokovic.
Bryan, who is widely considered as one of the greatest doubles players, says tennis fans have been fortunate to have those three all-time greats competing in the same era.
“We are all lucky as tennis fans to be part of this generation watch what these guys do what they are doing,” Bryan added. “Three guys over 20 Grand Slams. I think Roger might have the fans favourite, Novak might have it all on paper when it is said and done. Then Rafa’s 14 French Open title’s is super-human.”
