Carlos Alcaraz reacts to ousting Federico Coria at US Open

World No. 4 Carlos Alcaraz said staying calm in key moments was the reason why he was able to close out Federico Coria in straight sets.

Alcaraz, the third seeded player in the US Open main draw, ousted 78th-ranked Coria 6-2 6-1 7-5 to progress into the third round. 

Coria recovered from a break down in the third set, but Alcaraz didn't let the Argentine send the match into a fourth set.

“It is never easy to close [out] a match. Federico started to play very well. I had to stay calm to think [about] what I had to do at that moment. I stayed calm and focused in the tough moments,” Alcaraz said in his on-court interview, per the ATP website.

Alcaraz plays next Jenson Brooksby.

“It has been a great year for me. I think I am playing very well. I am so happy to be the player who now has the most victories in the year," Alcaraz added. "But I have to look forward and stay the same player and go for it.”

Alcaraz into the third round following a straight-set win

Coria led 2-1 through the opening three games of the match, but then Alcaraz claimed four consecutive breaks and won nine games in a row to open a 6-2 4-0 lead.

During that nine-game run, Alcaraz faced break points in three games, but Coria just couldn't get a break.

In the seventh game of the second set - when Coria was serving to stay in the set - Alcaraz earned his third break to open a two-set lead.

After winning the second set, Alcaraz broke Coria in the fourth game to open a 3-1 lead, but the Argentine broke back in the seventh game. 

In the ninth game, Alcaraz saved five break points to avoid going down by a break in key moments.

Then, Alcaraz broke Coria in the 12th game, when the Argentine was serving to stay in the match.
