Former nine-time Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova said she was "so disappointed" to see Rafael Nadal withdrawing from Wimbledon.
On Wednesday, Nadal called a medical timeout for an abdominal injury but was able to continue and finish his match versus Taylor Fritz.
After beating Fritz in five sets, Nadal admitted he may be forced to pull out of the rest of the tournament.
On Thursday, Nadal underwent scans and they revealed an abdominal tear.
Nadal then called a press conference to announce his withdrawal from his Wimbledon semifinal versus Nick Kyrgios.
"Just so disappointed for Rafael Nadal - such a shame his body isn’t allowing him to continue- his spirit is unbreakable- hope he will be back soon- VAMOS Champ!!! #classact all the way," Navratilova tweeted.

Playing and winning two best-of-five-set matches with this kind of injury would have been too difficult for Nadal and that's why he decided to withdraw.
Also, Nadal didn't want to risk further aggravating his injury and being out for a couple of months.
"I can't imagine myself winning two matches and for respect to myself in some way I don't want to go out and not be competitive enough," Nadal said. "A couple of weeks ago I saw my career very different because of the foot injury. The most important thing is happiness more than any titles. I can't risk that match and stay two or three months out of the competition. I am very sad and it is a very tough one."
Nadal was playing at Wimbledon for the first time since 2019.
In 2019, Nadal reached the semifinal before losing to Roger Federer.
Nadal arrived to Wimbledon hoping to win his first Wimbledon title since 2010.
Unfortunately, Nadal's quest for a Calendar Grand Slam ended following the withdrawal from his semifinal.
Hopefully, Nadal will be ready and well-prepared for the US Open.
